Purvis
breaks national record and wins gold at Simplot
Games
Pocatello, Idaho- Ashton Purvis, a sophomore from
Oakland, CA., broke the national sophomore record and won the gold medal in the
200 meters at the elite Simplot Games. Purvis’s record-breaking time of 23.54
beat the old sophomore record of 23.64, set in 2000, by a tenth of a second.
More than 2,000 athletes come from across the U.S. and Canada to
participate in the 30th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains
the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the
J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the 2008 Simplot Games were held February
14-16; at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena is Pocatello, Idaho.
