Puskedra, even better than last
year
Breaks own Simplot Games meet
record
Pocatello,
Idaho- The Holt Arena crowd cheered for Luke Puskedra as he made Simplot
Games history Saturday afternoon.
Puskedra, a senior from Salt Lake City, broke his own Simplot Games meet
record of 4:13.62 set in 2007, by running an even better 4:10.58.
He began the race out in front and he never looked back. The announcer
and fans began cheering for Puskedra 200 meters into the race.
He appreciated the applause saying, “The crowd fired me up and it
motivated me.”
Puskedra ran a 4:08 in Boston a few weeks ago and thought a record
breaking performance would be “in the cards” for Simplot Games.
Puskedra really began kicking it into gear during the last 400.
“I looked up and saw 3:05 and then I began to push it. I paid for it the
last 200 though,” says Puskedra.
Puskedra will be attending the University of Oregon in the fall with a
full ride track scholarship.
More than 2,000 athletes come from across the U.S. and Canada to
participate in the 30th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains
the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the
J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the 2008 Simplot Games were held February
14-16; at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena is Pocatello, Idaho.
