Colorado thrower squashes the competition in the shot put

 
Pocatello, Idaho- Senior Mason Finely took the gold in the shot put with a personal best throw of 62’3”. The Salida native prevailed in a tight competition.
 
“It was a pretty tough competition, there were three of us above sixty feet. I was a little nervous at first, but once I hit my groove I felt better.”
 
Finely is a junior and ranked seventh in the nation. He is coached by his father, who is an University of Wyoming track and field alum.
 
More than 2,000 athletes come from across the U.S. and Canada to participate in the 30th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the 2008 Simplot Games were held February 14-16; at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena is Pocatello, Idaho.
