Utah runner wins gold
at elite meet
Pocatello, Idaho- Candace Eddy, a junior from
Kaysville, won the 1600 meters today with a time of 4:54. Last year Eddy took
second at the Simplot Games. This year she was ready to win the
gold.
“I wanted to be relaxed, but I ended up being behind four seconds on one
of my laps. It’s hard to make up four seconds, so when I came around I was like,
oh dang I am going to have to work really hard to make it up,” says
Eddy.
Eddy beat her competition by over ten seconds and ran right at her
personal record.
More than 2,000 athletes come from across the U.S. and Canada to
participate in the 30th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains
the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the
J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the 2008 Simplot Games were held February
14-16; at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena is Pocatello, Idaho.
